So many times we tell ourselves that we will do things differently, that we will truly change. But honestly, how many times do we truly follow through with that change? How often do we really “put on the new self” as Paul said in his letter to the Colossians?
Colossians 3 says, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”
Within three verses, Paul has already urged the people to focus on Heavenly things, not the evil things in this world…
“For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
We are urged to set our minds on things above because we have died and been given new life through Christ.
But what does the word “new” really mean? New means
No wonder Paul says in 1 Peter that we are aliens and strangers in this world. THIS WORLD IS NOT OUR HOME!
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Only through Christ can we be the new creation we were meant to be, truly living as aliens in this world. We were not made for earth; we were made for Heaven, so no matter how hard we, as believers, try to fit in, we can’t.
But we aren’t called to fit it! We are called to live as strangers in this world! We are called to put on the new self! To be set apart!
We are called to be NEW!
